About Time For Database Vendors To Learn From The Web

Adam Bosworth has written an interesting article about what we can (or have to) learn from The Web. He is talking about how it has teached us how to manage and distribute data and what it means for the Semantic Web and for the databases, and that standards such as Atom and RSS 2.0 will become increasingly important in the future. Here is his conclusion (although I strongly recommend you to read the whole article):
The Web is certainly changing the way we are viewing the world in many ways... TrackBackMaybe a bit offtopic, but I find it very interesting to consider the usage of Semantic Web concepts in Software Development in general. With ideas similar to those in http://www.pst.ifi.lmu.de/~rauschma/studenten/2004-zimmer_christian.pdf, we (setpoint.codehaus.org) are trying to describe the (in)famous Pet Store application using RDF/OWL, and then apply aspects to it, using this "software semantics" description instead of syntax-information. Alan, thanks for the pointer. This looks like an interesting approach. Could be a step in the right direction, but I have a hard time seeing what actual "real" value it will bring (basically since I do not know enough about it). Will the engine be generic and decoupled enough to be able to easily port it to Java? Is the weaver pluggable? Please write/blog something about this when it is more ready.
