Prevayler finalist in Jolt Awards!

Cool, Prevayler is finalist in the Jolt Awards: http://www.sdmagazine.com/pressroom/jolt_finalists_2004.pdf.

Boy, I've been using Prevayler for around two years now and it's certainly a very powerful alternative to the relational-mapping dance. Of course, the toughest competitor in the category is Hibernate. ;-)

That's great... too bad it's been pretty much abandoned. Well, maybe "abandoned" is too strong a word, but I find it very frustrating that what haphazard documentation there is, is out of date. The Presto petstore example on the site is broken (has been for at least a month or two) and I haven't been able to get it to work on my home machine.

Also, version 2.* has been at alpha since last September and there doesn't seem to be any work being done on it. I appreciate the fact that Klaus and co. probably have full time jobs to tend to, but it would be nice if they would at least push this to a stable release before they move on.

I guess I have to admit that part of my frustration stems from my own inexperience, since I'm too green to just whip together a system using Prevayler and get it to work. But, ultimately, it's too bad that a system with so much potential isn't getting the attention it deserves because of the half-hearted support and documentation (and arrogance?) on the part of the developers.

PS: If someone knows of a good, hand-holding, not out-of-date tutorial on using prevayler, I love to hear about it.

Oh wow, Jolt have a category for Worst Attitude In an Opensource Development? Looked at prevlayer, had questions which other people had raised, the answers for which all seemed to be categorised as the "You don't get it and your stupid" type. Perhaps not everyone behind prevlayer is like this, but enough of them are that I give it a wide berth...
